Synbreed is a competence cluster for the foundation of inter-disciplinary centers for genetic based breeding research for economic plants and companion animals. It is an association of scientists for plant and animal breeding, molecular biology, bio informatics technology and human medicine. Engaged are university, outside university and industrial cooperation partners.
The Cluster focuses of the research tasks are the functional analysis of the native biodiversity, the genetic analysis of complex characters as well as implementation of optimized breeding strategies. By speeding up of breeding progress a significant contribution should be made to an enduring efficiency increase of agricultural production.
Synbreed is coordinated by the initiator Professor Dr. Chris-Carolin Schön, Professor for Plant Breeding of the Technische Universität München and member of the Hans-Eisenmann-Zentrum.
The Cluster Synbreed is supported by the Federal Minsitry of Education and Research in the framework of the initiative Competence Networks of Agricultural and Nutrition Research.
